Personal History: Born and reared in Norfolk, Virginia, 1974 awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University, 1976 enlisted as a legal clerk obtaining the rank of Specialist Five, 1978 attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps, 1983 married Major (Retired) Harold D. Shambley, 1989 awarded a Master of Administration degree in Human Resources from Webster University, 1998 retired from the Army Medical Service Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel with 22 years of dedicated service, 2009 Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor and Mentor, and 2018 retired from the Office of The Surgeon General with 13 years of civil service.
