Personal History:  I am a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and extremely close to my brother Bob, sister Cindy, niece Talya, nephew Kahlil, their spouses, and children. Clearly, I am deeply indebted to my parents (now deceased) for their sacrifices, love, and encouragement and to our precious Lord, for his endless blessings.   Following graduation from high school, I attended Harlem Hospital School of Nursing, New York City, and received a diploma in Nursing in 1967. I subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tuskegee University, and two, Master of Nursing degrees, from Emory University and Columbia University, respectively.  I earned my graduate degrees in nursing prior to entering active duty in 1981.

Duty Assignments: I had the distinct privilege and opportunity to serve 13 years of my Army career at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC).  Other assignments included the 97th General Hospital, Frankfurt, Germany, the 121 Evacuation Hospital, Korea, the AMEDD Center and School, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, and William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Organization/Positions/Assignments in which you were a FIRST:   I was the first Deputy Commander for Nursing at WRAMC. 

​

Awards: The military awards I received include the Order of Military Medical Merit, Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism.  

​

Other Professional Affiliations:  My professional affiliations include Maryland Teaching English as a Second Language, Army Nurse Corps Association, and Nyumbani, a non-profit that assists HIV/AIDS children in Nairobi, Kenya.
